IT industry employees in India needs a wakeup call now. Tech Mahindra CEO CP Gurnanicommented on the skill levels of current IT employees stating, “94% of IT Graduates are not fit for hiring.” In other words. He went on to state that employees should not be redundant in their fields, rather they should get trained and upskill themselves in latest technologies in the market.
Skillset Problems of Organization:
Indian organizations are facing a scenario of skill shortage in the market when they start hiring for latest technologies. Each day there is a new update in an old technology or a new technology comes up but employees and graduates both are resistant to these changes which bars the organizations from hiring them in spite of apt experience. Fresh graduates fail to understand that every year number of jobs in niche field will decline by 25% with the current rate of automation. They cannot expect to get job in relevant fields by just scoring good marks in the subjects. They will have to train, upgrade their skill levels, certify in niche skills. Current employees sit in the comfort zonewithout taking the pain of upgrading their skillsets, feeling they are safe as they already have a job role.
Current Job Scenario:
They must understand the importance and criticality of training and continuous upgrading of skills. Last year 56,000 employees from all the levels were laid off from top-notch organizations where as one third of the IT Industry employee jobs are under a huge threat. Only 5 % of the Indians employed in the industry have the skill-sets to handle high-skilled jobs.
Wake Up Call for IT Workforce:
The status of the skill levels is on a fall and the need of the organizations are increasing every day. In the passing year, banking sectors required to hire cybersecurity and blockchain experts due to eminent cyber threats, and they failed miserably as the applying candidates did not have enough skillsets. There are many technologies as LTE, automation and Robotics etc where companies are fumbling among the numbered resumes, as they cannot find appropriate candidates.
It is the right time for the IT industry employee and aspirants to buckle up and upskill themselves through online training programs, classroom training programs, hands on sessions and start investing not only in SIP and insurance but also in their skillsets, else wait 2019 and you will not be having a job with you.
This is the reason for multiple online training organizations and career counsellors coming forward to train in the latest skillsets and to provide proper guidance to fresh graduates and experienced employees. There are many fresh graduates working in the IT industry from different fields where they do not have any idea what skills to acquire and what is the right career path for them.
